个人简介
Luca Sorrentino was born the 18th March 1973.
He graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cassino in 1997. Since 2001 he has a researcher of the grouping "Technologies and Machining Systems" at the University of Cassino.
His research interests cover a wide spectrum of polymeric composites technologies ranging from design and analysis to processing and manufacturing.
He carries out researches on manufacturing technologies to high flexibility such as Robotized Filament Winding to manufacture complex shape composite parts with high functional performances and Robotized Tape Placement to manufacture composite laminates with variable thickness.
Moreover he studies aspects connected with numerical simulation of Liquid Composite Moulding and prepeg-vacuum bagging where he carries out research on advanced design methodologies based on techniques of FEM simulations, in order to design/optimize both equipments and technological processes. The current research focus is on one hand the cure process of thick in order to reduce defects, such as resin degradation, low cure degree and residual stress, on the other the new processes such as Light RTM technology representing for low volume capability, one of the most innovative process able to be the best compromise between the advantages of the open mold technologies and the closed ones for composite material production: high quality and repeatability, besides versatility and cost reduction.
Furthermore he studies the machining of FRP with the aim to investigate the relationship among the cutting force and surface roughness with the relevant cutting parameters, such as the cutting speed, axial depth of cut and the feed rate.
He collaborates with “l’Università di Napoli-Federico II”, to study both the productivity increasing in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) processes by optimising the deposition rate of the filler metal by modelling a fuzzy-logic-based system and innovative technologies to manufacture hybrid metal-foam/composite sample that have the wider aim of producing components for industrial applications such as security systems for the automotive field (e.g. anti-intrusion bars).
In the end he carries out researches on innovative technologies such as cold plasma to be used for surface treatment; currently the research deals with two application cases: i) cleaning and sterilization analysis of glass polymers bottles for chemical pharmaceutical applications, ii) wettability and adhesion analysis of polypropylene bumpers for automotive applications and 2024 aluminum alloy for aeronautic field.
He is author of many papers concerning the manufacturing advanced systems of composite material and the innovative technology of cold plasma published on national and international journals and
presented to national and international conferences.
He is referee of important international journals:
• Advances in Mechanical Engineering, Ed. Hindawi Publishing Corporation.
• Procedia CIRP, Ed. Elsevier Science.
• Composites Part A, Ed. Elsevier Science.
• Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Ed. Elsevier Science.
• Finite Elements in Analysis and Design, Ed. Elsevier Science.

• Journal of Composite Materials, Ed. Sage.
• Journal of Materials Processing Technology, Ed. Elsevier Science.
• Sensors, Ed. Molecular Diversity Preservation International (MDPI).
• Surface and Coatings Technology, Ed. Elsevier Science.
• Vacuum, Ed. Elsevier Science.
He is tutor of research activities and Doctorate Degrees supervisor in innovative technologies and composite materials working sector.
He is a teacher for the Courses of compound materials technologies carried out by Civil and Mechanical Department of the University of Cassino.
He coordinated and directed important projects as regards Manufacturing Systems to produce aeronautic structural components in composite materials. These projects has been financed by private companies: AgustaWestland S.p.A., Tecnavan Interiors, Tecnologie Avanzate S.r.l.
He collaborated with the “Politecnico di Milano”, “Università of Firenze”, “Università of Lecce”, Università di Parma”, Università Politecnica delle Marche” in a PRIN'05 project called "Characterization of the multiscale geometry of manufactured surfaces for process control and tolerance analysis".
Now in cooperation with “ Tecnologie Avanzate s.r.l.”, “Dipartimento di Ingegneria Astronautica, elettrica ed energetica, dell’Università La Sapienza di Roma” and “Parco Scientifico e Tecnologico del Lazio Meridionale - Pa.L.Mer” coordinate the Unity of Cassino for the research project: “Sviluppo di innovative strutture multigrid in materiale composito polimerico mediante tecnologie avanzate di produzione”, POR FESR Lazio 2007-2013, “CO-RESEARCH”.
