His key research interests are multiscale and differential geometric representations of complex imaging data. The application focus is on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques, notably diffusion and tagging MRI, and on biologically motivated models of ‘early vision’. The approach in all these cases is to depart from a geometrical representation and reformulation of clinical image analysis challenges, such as geodesic tractography for mapping structural brain connectivity (connectomics) and deformation and strain analysis for quantification of myocardial function. The motivation is to bring these hitherto unexploited techniques into the clinical workflow. Tuition revolves around mathematical techniques for image analysis, tensor calculus, differential geometry, and linear partial differential equations.
