主要从事低温凝聚态物理的实验研究,在低维和纳米材料的电输运和热学性质研究方面、介观器件的制备和量子调控方面、微量样品/微弱信号的检测技术方面,以及在综合极端条件的建设方面开展研究工作。曾为研究纳米管/纳米线的热导和比热发展了一种3w实验方法,并得到广为引用。曾参与建设了我国第一台核绝热去磁装置,把二维电子气在磁场中冷却到了国际最低的电子温度,为在极低温下开展宏观量子物态的调控研究和量子计算研究创造有利条件。曾参与发现了量子反常霍尔效应,获得国家自然科学一等奖。
