Her research interests focus on the integration of measurements with models to investigate the impact of sources and their chemical evolution on tropospheric composition. This work includes the evaluation, and improvement, of models with observations, and the interpretation of observations with model results. Louisa has played a key role in the development of the NCAR community models MOZART (Model of OZone and Related Chemical Tracers) and CAM-chem (Community Atmosphere Model with chemistry), a component of the Community Earth System Model (CESM).

Louisa has also worked extensively with satellite observations of tropospheric constituents, including validation of the carbon monoxide (CO) retrievals from the Measurements Of Pollution In The Troposphere (MOPITT) instrument on the Terra satellite using airborne in situ measurements. She has been an active participant in tropospheric chemistry field campaigns, including NCAR-led TOPSE, MIRAGE, DC3, NOMADSS and FRAPPE, along with numerous NASA experiments (eg., ARCTAS, SEAC4RS, KORUS-AQ, FIREX-AQ).
