Bio
Dr. Rice’s laboratory effort has been funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Institutes of Health, and he is an author of more than 180 original papers and invited reviews. He is a Fellow and former Director of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the journal Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. He is a member of the American Society for Microbiology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. His research interests focus on the mechanisms of gene exchange and penicillin resistance in enterococci, the molecular epidemiology of resistant enterococcal infection, the molecular genetics of extended-spectrum b-lactamases in Gram-negative bacilli and the influence of antibiotic administration on the emergence of resistance in the clinical setting.
