Lisa Eshun-Wilson

I am currently a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Gabriel Lander at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla. I completed my PhD with Dr. Eva Nogales at the University of California, Berkeley, for which I received the 2020 Cris Alvaro Prize for excellence in research and community service. Molecular machines that protect our cells from stress, specifically mitochondrial “quality control” motors that can do more than take out the trash, excite me! I can watch these molecular machines in action, firsthand, using a cutting-edge visualization technique, known as cryo-electron microscopy. I have also taken on a joint postdoctoral position with the Andrew Ward lab to explore the molecular mechanisms of viruses, after the 2020 COVID world pandemic.
