Current research areas:
1) Mechanisms of myocardial preconditioning and postconditioning against ischemia-reperfusion injury;
2) Pharmacological cardioprotection under normal as well as Type 2 diabetic or hyperlipidemic conditions;
3) Applications of Langendorff isolated perfused heart model in transgenic and gene knockout mice;
4) Physiology and pathophysiology of intermittent hypoxia;
5) Protective effects of dietary inorganic nitrate and nitrite against cardiotoxicity of anticancer drugs as well as ischemia-reperfusion injury;
6) Research on ATP breakdown metabolites (inosine & hypoxanthine) as sensitive biomarkers to rapidly detect the onset of ischemia or hypoxia events in the heart and other vital organs;
7) Mechanisms of exercise-induced cardioprotection.

1) Excitatory/inhibitory neuronal afterdischarge following hyperventilation and its implication upon breathing stability and sleep apnea;
2) Regulation of exercise hyperpnea under hypoxia, hypocapnia, or heart-lung denervation.
