Description of Clinical Expertise
Dr.Dong has a solid background in radiation dosimetry and use of images in radiation oncology for setup (IGRT) and treatment planning. He has involved in several auto-segmentation projects using deformable image registration or machine learning methods. In addition, Dr.Dong had worked and heavily involved in the technical commissioning in three unique proton therapy centers (Hitachi Synchrotron at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2005-2008, Varian first ProBeam pencil beam scanning at Scripps Health in 2012-2016, and IBA multi-room cyclotron-based system since 2017).

A nationally recognized expert in radiation therapy, Dr. Dong has co-authored more than 210 peer-reviewed articles and 15 book chapters. His publications had a h-index of 62. He has conducted innovative research and clinical development in image guided radiation therapy and proton therapy. Recently, he is focused on a novel treatment modality: ultra-high dose rate radiation therapy or FLASH, which shows improved normal tissue sparing without compromising tumor control.
