Research Interests
Our most recent studies involved the reactions of metallaboranes with Lewis bases. We discovered that the reaction between the metallahexaborane (PPh3)2(CO)OsB5H9 and phosphines results in the formation of a metallapentaborane with a pendent BH2 group to which the added phosphine is attached. The species (PPh3)2(CO)OsB4H7-BH2PR3 degrades thermally to the corresponding osmapentaborane and BH3-PR3. The overall scheme is given below:
This work was extended to bidentate phosphines and such processes as shown in the following scheme are observed.
On the basis of the success seen in the latter study, the reactions of larger metallaboranes with bidentate phosphines provided us with a new area of study. Some of the earlier results are summarized in the scheme below, and they show how one can access range of linked cluster systems.
