Bio
Dr. Laura Jones is a recognized risk strategist and visionary executive known for her thought leadership and consistency in exceptional execution. With a professional background in both risk management and quality systems management, Dr. Jones expertly blends niche skills that underscore program sustainability. Having served in only newly formed roles throughout her career, Dr. Jones brings a trailblazer perspective to each organization that she engages. She is adept at understanding business goals and delivering value-added results. A military veteran, Dr. Jones spent 20 years on active-duty service in the U.S. Army where her career culminated with the award of the Legion of Merit, as well as lifetime memberships to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
Dr. Jones’ roles have included deploying programs supporting between several hundred and 128,000+. She was established programs for Fortune 500 companies, privately held companies, and small businesses. In 2018, a risk management program that she designed received external, industry-level recognition and was honored as a CSO50 Award recipient. In 2019, Dr. Jones was again recognized in her industry with a GRC Practice Leader Award. Prior to these roles, she spent a decade as a global management consultant providing risk and quality management support to client organizations such as The Pentagon, Department of Defense, Department of the Army, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of the Treasury.
Dr. Jones earned a Ph.D. in Product Management from Capitol Technology University, master’s degree in Quality Systems Management, and an undergraduate degree in Management Studies. She has completed executive education programs at Carnegie Mellon (Chief Risk Officer’s Program); Harvard Kennedy School (Leadership Decision Making); UC Berkeley Haas (Artificial Intelligence), and Wharton online (Business Strategy from Wharton: Competitive Advantage). She also earned a graduate-level certificate in Cybersecurity Policy from the University of Maryland University College.
A sampling of Dr. Jones’ professional certifications includes NIST Cybersecurity Lead Implementer (NIST CSF LI), Project Management Institute-Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in the Governance of Information Technology (CGEIT), and Project Management Professional (PMP).
In her spare time, she writes children’s book to cybersecurity and IT concepts through her kid-friendly characters; Cyber Ky & Tekkie Guy. Dr. Jones also has academic publications to her credit as well. She has spoken in Europe, the Middle East, and throughout North America on the topics of risk management and cybersecurity risk.
