Bio
I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree; Second Class Upper Division from the Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in 1990, then Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degrees from the Department of Food Technology, University of Ibadan in February 1993 and April 1999, respectively. I began my academic career as an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in 1993 and rose through the ranks to be promoted to Professor of Food Science and Technology in 2008. I belong to 12 Learned Societies/Professional Associations and Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science, International Academy of Food Science and Technology, the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology, Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria and Risks Managers Association of Nigeria. I am currently the Chairman, Steering Committee of African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) and Chairman, Governing Council, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora.
I have 32 years of experience as a post-harvest expert on tropical root crops, mostly with the Natural Resources Institute in the United Kingdom, the Association of African Universities, and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (where I am currently consultant, Project Manager of BASICS II), the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD), and the International Society of Tropical Root Crops, (with members spread across over 35 countries). I was also the Country Manager for the Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation (BMGF) funded ‘Cassava: Adding Value for Africa’ (2008 to 2019) project. Project Coordinator and Work Package leader for EU African, Caribbean and Pacific scientific capacity building project (350 young scientists trained in Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia, Fiji, Trinidad and Barbados).
I led IITA-African Cassava Agronomy Project’s component on the validation and dissemination to commercial farmers and the African Development Bank (AfDB) Technology for Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) product and quality support to Togo and Nigeria. I served as the Resource Person, World Bank Sponsored Project titled Upscaling the Nigerian Flash Drying Experience for Sustainable Regional Trade and Income generation in West Africa (Ghana, Benin Republic, Sierra-Leone, Nigeria). I chaired the Local Organising Committee that successfully organized the 16th ISTRC Symposium in September 2012 at the FUNAAB with 355 participants from 32 countries and 5 continents in attendance.
I am the current President of the International Society of Tropical Root Crops, West African Association of Food Science and Technology and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Societal Reformation and Peace Foundation. I have in collaboration with colleagues in Nigeria and overseas attracted over 30 million US dollars research grants while working with NRI-Greenwich University UK on DFID, EU, BMGF funds, IITA, GAIN, AAU, and McGill University.
I am a recipient of 22 scholarships, fellowships, awards, prizes, honors, and recognition, including the 2011 FUNAAB Research Productivity Award (Senior Academic Category), 2012 FUNAAB Most Outstanding International Ambassador, and 2008 Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Award for Regional Technology Development in Sub-Saharan Africa.
I was a former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development), Dean of Food Science and Human Ecology, Director of A. G. Leventis Memorial Centre for Learning, Deputy Director, Centre for Huram Resources Development and Head of Department of Food Science and Technology in FUNAAB.
I have supervised over 100 undergraduates, 17 Master's and 34 PhD students, published 136 journal articles, 30 books, 30 conference proceedings, and 1 patent with Google Scholar (5,548, h-index of 38), Scopus 1601, h-index of 21, Research Gate (3258, h-index 32) and 2023 AD Scientific Rankings of 4,912 (2nd best researcher in FUNAAB and the 43rd best researcher in Nigeria). I am a member of the 2020 UK Research and Innovation International Development Peer Review College. I have assessed 26 Professorial cadres in different universities in Nigeria and abroad, served as editorial board of the International Journal of Food Science and Technology. I am an erudite scholar, passionate innovator, a team player with social skills, dedicated researcher, a mentor, manager, advocator and role model in sustainable development and transformations.
