Larsson Lars-Gunnar

Since 2014, Dr. Larsson is Professor at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology (70%) and Professor and Academic Chair at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Clinical Neurophysiology Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm Sweden, and Research Professor, Center for Developmental & Health Genetics, The Pennsylvania State University (since 2008) and International Affiliate at the Center for Muscle Biology, University of Kentucky (since 2008). Prior to this, he held the positions as Professor and Academic Chair at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, Uppsala University and Uppsala University Hospital (2002-20014), and Marie Underhill Noll Endowed Professor in Physiology and Clinical Neurophysiology at the Noll Research Center, Interim Director at the Noll Physiological Research Center, Academic appointment at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology at the College of Medicine, Hershey Medical Center and a Foreign Adjunct Professorship at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, Sweden (1997-2002). He started his medical studies at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden 1971 and received his Ph.D. in Physiology at the Karolinska Institute 1978. He received his M.D. 1980 and completed his residency at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology and Neurology at the Karolinska Hospital and granted the qualification as a specialist in Clinical Neurophysiology by the National Swedish Board of Health and Welfare 1985. He was awarded a tenure track position as assistant senior physician at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, Karolinska Hospital 1985. The same year, he became Associate Professor (docent) in Physiology at the Karolinska Institute. He directed the Cellular and Molecular Physiological Muscle Research Group within the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the Karolinska Hospital between 1987-1997. He worked as a postdoctoral student in the Biomechanics Laboratory at Penn State University in 1978, as a visiting scientist at the CNR Center of Muscle Biology and Physiopathology, Department of Biomedical Sciences, Padova University, Italy 1988 and as a Visiting Professor at the Department of Physiology, School of Medical, University of Wisconsin-Madison 1991-1992.
