Bio
Dr. Kunju received an M.D. from the Grant Medical College (Mumbai, India) in 1993. She received a scholarship from the National Council of Education, Research and Training in New Delhi, India in 1985 awarded to the top 2% of students in the country and the Gold Medal in Obstetrics & Gynecology from the University of Mumbai in 1991. She completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India (1993-1996), serving as Chief Resident at K.B. Bhabha Hospital (1996). She also completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI (1998-2002), serving as Chief Resident from 2000-2002. Following residency training, she completed a fellowship in Genitourinary Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School (2002-2003) and joined the faculty as a Clinical Lecturer in 2003. She was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2005.
Dr. Kunju is a practicing surgical pathologist with extensive diagnostic expertise in genito-urinary (GU) pathology. She currently heads the section of clinical GU service at the University of Michigan. She is the co-director of the Tissue Core, Michigan Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Prostatic Cancer (SPORE) and is also the director of the urologic pathology fellowship at the University of Michigan. She has close contacts with several SPORE researchers and clinicians and has collaborated in several NIH-funded studies. Her research interests lie in evaluation and validation of biomarkers that help guide treatment and prognosis in GU malignancies.
