个人简介
Lai Wan Teng (Malaysia) is a lecturer/ researcher at KANITA (Centre for Research on Women and Gender), Universiti Sains Malaysia. She completes her PhD (2017), which researches the everyday work and lives of low-skilled migrant labourers in Penang. Wan Teng was awarded the first Right Livelihood College (RLC) Bonn PhD Scholarship by The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to pursue her PhD at the Centre for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn, Germany. Besides, she was awarded the scholarship by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to pursue her Master studies in Gender and Development Studies (GDS), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. She received her first degree from the Chinese Studies Department, University of Malaya because her initial ambition was to become a teacher who can influence and inspire the lives of young hearts. She has extensive fieldwork experience in researching vulnerable groups, including women factory migrant workers, foreign domestic workers, and male labourers in the construction and services sectors. She also has extensive work experience with women’s non-governmental organisations prior to her career as an academic. She enjoys doing running, meditation, yoga and all forms of exercises, including sleeping, to regain her energy.
