Bio
Dr Carvalho’s research focuses on desiccating the biological pathways involved in the role of stress in the pathogenesis of mental and physical illnesses and in the stress-related biological mechanisms of antidepressant drugs.
Her projects more specifically revolve around two major themes:
1. Investigating new immune-related biomarkers of stress-induced chronic and physical illnesses.
2. Targetting immune-related biomarkers for their potential antidepressant effects.

Memberships/Awards
Dr. Carvalho has received several prestigious awards including Young Investigator Awards from the National Alliance for Research in Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD), the European Neuropsychopharmacology Society (ECNP), the British Association for Psychopharmacology Non-clinical Award, and the American Psychosomatic Society. She is also Associate Editor for Brain Behaviour and Immunity.
Methods: Design, execution, and publication of research on secondary data (e.g. electronic healthcare databases) relevant to drug discovery and development; Development, coordination, and execution outcomes research for drug enablement project at European Level; Development, coordination, and execution of primary data for biomarker development; immunology data analysis.
