Bio
Leigh Stearns received the B.A. degree from Carleton College, Northfield, MN, USA, in 1999, the M.S. degree in geological sciences from Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA, in 2002, and the Ph.D. degree in earth and environmental sciences from the University of Maine, Orono, ME, USA, in 2007.
She is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Geology, and the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS), University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, USA. Her research interests include outlet glaciers draining the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, and their response to past, present and future climate changes. In particular, she uses a combination of field-based measurements, satellite remote sensing techniques, and numerical models to understand the dynamics of fast-flowing glaciers.
