Career Trajectory
Bio
Dr. Lukasz Kowalski obtained M.Sc. degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from the Technical University of Lodz, Poland in 2005. He obtained Ph.D. from Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain in 2016 for thesis ‘Contribution to advanced hot wire wind sensing’. He has joined Micro and Nano Technologies (MNT) research group at UPC in September 2005. He has participated in space exploration projects: REMS (MSL), MEIGA (MetNet), MEDA (Mars2020). His work is aimed at the development of thermal anemometers for the low-pressure atmosphere of Mars. His research areas include dimensionless analysis, FEM/CFD simulations, thermal modeling, inverse algorithm optimization for wind speed and incidence angle retrieval. In 2013, he received the NASA Group Achievement Award as a member of MSL REMS Instrument Development Team, for his participation in the design of the wind sensor of the Curiosity Rover in Gale Crater. Recently he has contributed to the sigma-delta control over MOX chemical sensors for better performance in case of gas detection limit and time of response.
