Luis Javier Gonzalez was graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry in the University of Havana in 1990. He started a position as a researcher in the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Havana. In 1995 he defended his PhD Degree in the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Havana by Developing a novel method that facilitates the identification of the N-glycosylation sites of Glycoproteins of unknown sequences by combining the specific 18O-labeling of N-glycoproteins and mass spectrometry. His field of research has been dedicated to the characterization of natural and recombinant proteins and carbohydrates by mass spectrometry and also to the development of novel methods to aid the sequencing of peptides and the characterization of post-translational modifications by mass spectrometry and proteomics tools. In 2000 he became the Head of the Physical-Chemistry Division at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. Since 2012 he is leading Systems Biology Department in the same institution. In 2022 he became a Titular Professor of Protein Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics at the Faculty of Chemistry in the University of Havana. He is currently the Coordinator of the Master Course at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. He is invited Professor at the Institute for Protein Research at Osaka University, Japan.
