Bio
Lyn joined Purdue as an Associate Professor of Small Animal Surgery and Biomedical Engineering 6 years ago. Lyn holds a Bachelors degree in agriculture and a DVM degree, both from Oklahoma State University. She completed a residency in small animal surgery and a Master of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Washington State University. Lyn is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and has held teaching positions at Mississippi and Oklahoma State University.
Prior to joining Purdue’s faculty, Lyn was with Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a Johnson & Johnson company, for 17 years, serving in a number of roles in supporting medical device product development, surgical education, and pre-clinical evaluation of medical devices. Named on 15 US patents and 5 applications, Lyn has made significant contributions to device development, and, with the help of her colleagues in research and development, authored a textbook, Veterinary Endo-Surgery, (Mosby Publishing Company, 1999), applying minimally invasive surgery techniques to veterinary medicine.
Clinical research interests are in the areas of laparoscopy and thoracoscopy, including exploratory laparoscopy, laparoscopic liver biopsy, laparoscopic ovariohysterectomy, and thoracoscopic procedures. In addition to teaching, Lyn’s research interests are in combining flexible and rigid endoscopy to develop new procedures and instrumentation for animals that could potentially be applied to human surgery.
