个人简介
I am an early career epidemiologist–scientist who completed infectious diseases training at Harvard University in 2018. I have focused clinically on the identification of novel infectious disease syndromes and pathogens and on the development of novel diagnostics and therapeutics including vaccines.
I have a broad background in Infectious Diseases and Policy, with specific training in ethnographic research, predictive modelling and primary data analysis on neglected communicable diseases in minority populations. As Co-Investigator on serval industry and CoVPN-funded grants, I laid the groundwork for the proposed research by developing effective measures of education, communication and problem-solving relevant to infectious diseases research. In addition, I successfully administered the projects (e.g staffing, research data, finances), collaborated with other researchers and produced several peer-reviewed publications from each project. As a result of my previous experiences, I am aware of the importance of frequent communication among project members and of constructing a realistic research plan, timeline, and budget. The current application builds logically on my prior work. In summary, I have the expertise, leadership, training, expertise, and motivation necessary to successfully carry out the proposed research project.
My early training was in cost-effectiveness and predictive modelling in infectious diseases that directly addressed the fact that diseases of this nature are often overlooked in minority populations. In addition to this training, with a team of collaborators, I serve as a co-investigator on a phase 1 trial using a non-invasive florescence-based (hyperspectral) diagnostic technology to detect in situ inflammation and the potential presence of microorganisms. Preliminary data suggests a correlation and presence of inflammatory cells & microorganisms between skin samples collected and the images taken. This project emphasized contextual analytes in the etiology and maintenance of chronic wound healing, many being traumatic in nature. This study could serve as an advanced predictive diagnostic tool that could rapidly interrogate wound status and accurately inform and predict treatment strategies.
In my position in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, I am interested in an immunologically based investigation by translational methods to identify mechanisms of the host immune response to vaccination, especially in the context of immune-compromised populations. I have continued clinical trial investigations as an investigator for the Phase 3 Moderna and Janssen COVID-19 vaccine trials. I have been active in developing a protocol investing BCG vaccination for healthy individuals to assess protective mechanisms against respiratory viral diseases. I also have co-initiated a cohort study investigating immune responses to COVID-19 vaccines in immunocompromised populations. My mentorship team includes Dr. Lindsey Baden and Dr. Stephen Walsh at BWH. As an epidemiologist-scientist, I will be active in laboratory investigation, translation research, patient care, and teaching activities based at BWH, with a goal of becoming an independent investigator.
