Krzysztof Błaszyk, MD, PhD, Professor of Cardiology,
Poznań University of Medical Sciences, Poland.
Summary of professional accomplishments
I was born in Poznań. Here, I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the K. Marcinkowski Medical Academy.
In 1982, I started postgraduate internship, and in April 1983 I began work as a junior assistant at the First Department of Cardiology of the Institute of Cardiology, Medical Academy in Poznań. The First Department of Cardiology, which provides a wide range of diagnostics and treatment for virtually all cardiovascular diseases, had cardiological standby for patients with life-threatening conditions, particularly acute coronary syndromes. This gave me comprehensive training in the field of internal medicine, especially cardiology.
Since 1984 I worked at the Department of Cardiology (headed by Prof. Kazimierz Jasiński, MD, PhD) as an assistant and from 1986 as a senior assistant. Since October 1992, I was employed at the Medical Academy, at the First Department of Cardiology (headed by Prof. Andrzej Cieśliński, MD, PhD), initially as an assistant professor, and in the years 2001-2006 as a senior lecturer. Since August 2006, I was employed again as an assistant professor with habilitation - still in the First Department of Cardiology, but already at the Medical University. Since April 2015, I was employed as an associate professor at the First Department of Cardiology, University of Medical Sciences in Poznań, headed by Prof. Stefan Grajek, MD, PhD.
In the years 1985-1990, apart from the job at the cardiology department, I also worked part-time as an assistant at the Heart Diseases Outpatient Clinic of the Provincial Combined Hospital in Poznań, in practice acting as an outpatient clinic of the First Department of Cardiology, aimed at performing routine examinations, analyzing records and formulating results of 24-hour ECG monitoring (HOLTER-ECG) in the Non-invasive Cardiac Arrhythmia Laboratory.
From 1995 to 2002, under the command of the Clinical Manager, Prof. A. Cieśliński, MD, PhD, I worked as consultant for the Department of Traumatic Surgery, at the Medical Academy in Poznań - in our Hospital, until the transfer of this unit to the Municipal Hospital.
The work in the Department of Cardiology, which performed diagnosis and treatment of virtually all cardiovascular diseases and in the eighties had internal medicine standby for the city of Poznan, gave me comprehensive training in the field of internal medicine and cardiology.
In October 1985, I passed the first degree specialization exam, and in 1991 the second degree exam in internal medicine.
In 1990, I defended my doctoral dissertation entitled "An attempt to group premature ventricular arrhythmias by the spatial determination of electrical vector based on a standard ECG record."
In 1991, I passed the second specialization exam in internal diseases. In 1997, I became a specialist in cardiology.
On the basis of the habilitation thesis entitled "The behaviour of recurrent atrial-ventricular tachycardia depending on the electrophysiological origin of its loop." (Reviewers: Prof. Maria Trusz-Gluza, MD, PhD, Prof. Grażyna Świątecka, MD, PhD, Prof. Michał Wierzchowiecki, MD, PhD) on 9th November 2005 the Faculty of Medicine Council of the Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Sciences in Poznań adopted a resolution to grant me a degree of habilitated doctor in medical sciences.
Since 2007, I have been employed at the Przemienienia Pańskiego Clinical Hospital, at the University of Medical Sciences in Poznań under the contract for health care services.
In 1992, after returning to Poland from a 10-month British Council scholarship in clinical cardiology - cardiac electrophysiology in St. George's Hospital Medical School (Professor AJ Camm) in London, to the home Department of Cardiology in Poznań, I actively participated in the works of the team 'Cardiology Priority' created by the Wielkopolska Union of Health Care (Professor A. Cieśliński chaired the 'Cardiology Priority'), where one of the tasks was the formation of a new Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory at the First Department of Cardiology of the Medical Academy in Poznań. This project was implemented in the years 1992-1996. In 1997, the first Department of Cardiac Electrophysiology was established in the region of Wielkopolska at the First Department of Cardiology in Poznań. Also in 1997, I was appointed Laboratory Manager by the head of the Department Prof. A. Cieśliński.
On 1st January 2001, I was appointed by Rector for the position of Head of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory, I still hold this position.
