Bio
Kristin S. Williams, Ph.D. (she/her) is the Director of the FC Manning School of Business at Acadia University, one of the oldest and most respected liberal arts universities in Canada. She is an Associate Professor in Management at Acadia University and holds a Visiting Researcher appointment at the University of Eastern Finland (Innovation Management). Dr. Williams is also the Founder, Managing Director and Principal Researcher at Prudentia Institute: Youth Knowledge Exchange, with a mission to support the inclusive development and empowerment of youth through research and knowledge mobilization. Prudentia is home to the Student Research Lab, where students act as peer researchers, using participatory action research to explore the pressing issues facing youth today. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Williams spent 25 years in executive leadership roles in the non-profit and for-profit sectors, most recently with Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia SPCA. Following her PhD in Management at Saint Mary’s University she served as Historian in Residence with the Faculty of Management at Dalhousie University while also completing a Postdoc with the MITACS Accelerate Entrepreneur program. Currently, she is co-editor in chief at the journal of Culture and Organization, an associate editor at Qualitative Research in Organization and Management: An International Journal, and a member of the editorial advisory board at the Journal of Management History. She also serves on the Executive of the Division of Critical Management Studies at the Academy of Management and edits the divisional newsletter. Dr. Williams identifies as a polemical feminist engaged in activist writing and narrative methods in critical management studies. Much of her work has focused on uncovering neglected historical female figures, novel theories, and modes of practice in management and organizational studies and history. Dr. Williams is broadly published in academic journals, including the Journal of Management History, Management and Organizational History, Business History, Qualitative Research in Organization and Management, Qualitative Research Journal, Equity Diversity and Inclusion and Culture and Organization. Dr. Williams' academic awards include the Udayan Rege Best Dissertation Award, the Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada Award of Merit, and an Emerald Literati Award for Outstanding Paper (Journal of Management History). She is also a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Medal for contributions to Philanthropy and Social Services.
