Bio
Kristelle is a Senior Lecturer in Developmental Psychology at La Trobe University and a leading child development researcher including with particular expertise in early childhood autism. Her particular interests are in the development of infants and toddlers, including children later diagnosed with autism, and how the condition influences the life experience of children, parents, and the whole family unit. Kristelle also has expertise in diagnostic assessment for autism, right across the lifespan from infancy through adulthood, and is among a small number of Australian-based trainers on the gold-standard diagnostic assessment tool; the ADOS.
Kristelle is an active member of a number of research groups, locally in Melbourne, nationally across Australian including with the Cooperative Research Center for Living with Autism (Autism CRC), and with individuals and teams abroad including the USA and UK. Locally, Kristelle leads La Trobe University's Childhood Autism Phenotype team, within the School of Psychology and Public Health. Her research is funded by the Autism CRC, Australian government Department of Social Services, National Disability Insurance Agency, and industry partner JVCKENWOOD Corporation.
Kristelle completed her PhD with professional Educational Psychology training, at the University of Queensland. Subsequently, she held post-doctoral research positions at the University College London (UCL) Institute of Child Health and UCL Institute of Education, where she developed her expertise in ASD through research work within the large, multi-disciplinary Preschool Autism Communication Trial (PACT) and British Autism Study of Infant Siblings (BASIS) teams.
Kristelle is courageous and collaborative in her approach to research, not afraid to tackle potentially sensitive topics in the field. She enjoys the challenge of research into this complex condition and working with researchers and professionals from various disciplinary backgrounds, applying rigorous methods to achieve the best outcomes for individuals with ASD and their families. She enjoys supportive collegiate relationships with other Australian autism researchers, and collaborative mentorship with Early Career Researchers, to grow capacity for research that is both rigorous and relevant.
