个人简介
Konstantin D. Litasov investigated and substantiated the fundamental differences in melting in the regions of the Earth’s mantle containing H2O, CO2 and the recovered C–O–H–fluid. His studies proved that melting in systems with H2O depends on the solubility of hydrogen in the structure of silicates, while melting in systems with CO2 is determined by the stability of alkali carbonates and controlled by the amounts of Na2O and K2O in the system. He discovered that in the systems with volatile components, most solidus curves flatten out at pressu rates above 6–8 GPa, creating conditions for melting at the intersections with the RT profiles of the subduction zones and the middle mantle. He concluded that melting of carbonates of subduction plates takes place in the transition layer of the mantle, which leads to the formation of carbonatite diapirs that can ascend through the mantle due to the effect of the dissolution-deposition mechanism; as a result, oxidized channels are formed in the mantle, and this is an effective mechanism for generating diamonds at large depths. The proposed mechanism may be dominant for the migration of melts in the Earth’s mantle.
