Bio
Oluwatoyin (Toyin) Dare Kolawole obtained his PhD and master’s degrees in Ife (Nigeria) and Sussex (England), respectively. He is Professor of Rural Development at the Okavango Research Institute (ORI), University of Botswana (UB) in southern Africa. Professor Kolawole is an Adjunct Faculty at Eastern University based in St Davids, Pennsylvania, US. Working at the interface of science, policy and agriculture in Africa, his research interests are in social change/diffusion studies, natural resources management, rural development and the intersection of local and Western knowledge/innovations in sustainable, low external input (LEI) agriculture. He has published well over 120 papers covering rural development subjects in research journals, books, conference proceedings and other outlets. A UC Visiting Canterbury Fellow in 2014 and CODESRIA laureate in 1994/2006, Dr. Kolawole is a recipient of over 30 academic awards and research/travel grants and has led and managed some multi-disciplinary, pro-poor development research and projects funded both locally and internationally. He has attended over 60 regional/international conferences and workshops in Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and the Oceania. Professor Kolawole is a Lead and Scoping Expert for the United Nations Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) since 2016. He is also an external reviewer for the European Commission (EC) and other international/multilateral agencies. In 2016, the Lesotho’s Council for Higher Education (CHE) appointed him as chairperson of the panel of experts that reviewed the B.Sc. Agricultural Economics program of the National University of Lesotho (NUL). He was also appointed by the CHE as a member of experts that reviewed the B.Sc. Agricultural Extension program of the NUL in the first and second quarters of 2017. Prof Kolawole was also a member of the panel of experts that reviewed the BSc (Agricultural Economics) program of the North-West University (NWU), Mafikeng Campus, South Africa, in July 2020. Prof. Kolawole is a verified peer reviewer for several, well recognized scientific journals published by Taylor & Francis, John Wiley, Routledge, Springer, Emerald and Elsevier. He is an Editorial Board member of SAGE Open and The International Journal of Sociology of Agriculture and Food (IJSAF).
