space ecology
Ecological theoretical studies have shown that the outcomes of ecological interactions at the population, community and system levels can vary dramatically when the spatial context of these interactions is explicitly considered. Fundamental characteristics such as stability of interactions, resilience of systems, diversity of communities, and persistence of populations are fundamentally affected by spatial relationships (i.e., depending on distance), compared to those predicted in a homogeneous environment with continuous agitation. , spatial configuration of habitat, mobility, transport, etc.). Likewise, theoretical explorations suggest that interactions between organisms and their physical habitats can lead to habitat patterning and structuring, and that spatial context profoundly affects the dynamics of these interactions. All these theoretical explorations provide many qualitative predictions. Extending them, turning them into testable hypotheses and validating them in the field or in the laboratory remains a scientific challenge.
