Bio
Professor Khalid Matalka received his BSc and MSc in Medical Technology in 1986 and 1988 from Yarmouk University, Jordan, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA, respectively. Then he received his PhD. in Pathology (Immunology and Cancer therapy) from Ohio State University, USA, in 1992. After finishing his PhD., Dr. Matalka joined Harvard Medical School as a Postdoctoral fellow till 1994. He is an American Board Certified as Specialist in Immunology (SI (ASCP)) and a member at the American Society for Cancer Research since 1994.
Dr. Matalka moved to Jordan in 1994 and, in Feb 1995, joined the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences at the University of Petra (formerly Jordan University for Women) as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to an Associate Professor in 1999, and then to Professor in 2004. Prof. Matalka was promoted to be the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences in 2006 till 2009. In 2009-2011, he joined King Hussein Institute for Biotechnology and Cancer as the Director for Infrastructure Research. In 2011, Prof. Matalka became a consultant for the Deanship of Research at the University of Petra. In 2012, he was chosen by the University president to be the director of a new research center (Petra University Pharmaceutical Center). In 2014, Prof. Matalka joined the American University of Madaba and held the Chairman of the Department of Medical Laboratories and then as the Dean of Health Sciences (consisting of three departments: Medical Laboratories, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Pharmacy) at the American University of Madaba. In 2016, he joined a pharmaceutical startup company named OncoTherapeutica, as a Chief Biologist. While there, Prof. Matalka was developing new potential drugs for the treatment of prostate cancer and melanoma.
Prof. Matalka has 63 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, and he is an Associate Editor of two and a member of the editorial board of several international journals. Prof. Matalka is known as an international reviewer in the fields of Cancer therapy, Immunomodulation, and Ethnopharmacology.
Because of his passion for scientific and medical writing, Prof. Matalka recently established a scientific writing consultation (https://matalkascientificwriting.com). He believes that scientific writing is a hybrid of compelling science and art of presentation while maintaining a positive mindset, focused with a purpose, and always striving for significant outcomes.
