个人简介
Since coming to The Christ Hospital in 1985, Dr, Dean J. Kereiakes has gained international acclaim and is recognized by his peers as one of the top interventional cardiologists in the world.
The grandson of Greek immigrants and son of a noted radiation physicist, Dr. Kereiakes was born in Louisville, Kentucky but grew up in Cincinnati. His father, James actually pioneered radiation dosimetry, which is used in cancer therapy.
Growing up, Dr. Kereiakes excelled in both sports and academia. He was a Cincinnati Enquirer First Team football player at Indian Hill High School, and was also a member of National Honorary Society. When he started at the University of Cincinnati, he decided not play football so he could focus on his studies. His academic dedication and determination enabled him to graduate in three years.
He was valedictorian of the 1978 graduating class at The University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. Dr. Kereiakes then completed an internship and residency at the University of California, San Francisco, a senior residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and a Chief Residency at the University of California, San Francisco. He followed that with fellowships in adult cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco and in coronary angioplasty at the San Francisco Heart Institute and the Sequoia Hospital. Upon completing his medical training, he opted to return to his hometown of Cincinnati to dedicate his career to the health of the community.
He started as an attending interventional cardiologist at The Christ Hospital and rose steadily to his current position as Medical Director of The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Center as well as Medical Director of the Carl and Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education at The Christ Hospital. He is also Professor of Clinical Medicine at Ohio State University. In 1995, he founded Ohio Heart and Vascular Center.
In addition to lecturing extensively, both nationally and internationally, on interventional cardiology, Dr. Kereiakes has served as principle or co-investigator in over 1,100 trials and investigator for most of the interventional technologies introduced in the last two decades. He has also performed more than 25,000 catheterization laboratory procedures and published over 700 journal articles, abstracts and book chapters. He currently serves on editorial boards of the most prestigious medical journals as well as scientific advisory boards for notable device and pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Kereiakes is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He was a member of the Joint American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Task Force Committees to write guidelines for both coronary angioplasty and unstable angina. Dr. Kereiakes has been selected as Outstanding Alumnus University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Best Doctors in America and has received the Cincinnati Business Courier Health Care Hero – Innovator award and the Ohio Valley American Heart Association’s Kaplan Visionary Award for cardiovascular research.
His met and married his wife Anne in San Francisco, where she was a critical care nurse. They have four grown children, a girl and three boys. Dr Kereiakes doesn’t have a lot of time to relax, but when he does, he likes to spend time with his family.
He and his wife are involved in multiple humanitarian causes, including the USO, the Walter Reed Hospital, the Lindner Center of Hope and the American Heart Association.
Along side his charitable contributions and professional achievements; Dr. Kereiakes never loses sight of his own golden rule–to treat all of his patients with respect. “Many care providers can become calloused. I always teach my house staff and residents this lesson: No matter how much pressure you’re under, never forget that this patient is somebody’s mother, father, brother, sister and that somebody loves them.”
