Dr. Iga's pioneering work led to industrial growth propelled by the explosive expansion of computers and communications technologies. Accordingly, opto-quantum electronics research in new areas such as photonic crystals arose and had a substantial impact on academic studies. In addition, the invention of the planar microlens array created higher intensity illumination in liquid crystal projectors. Also, Japan's Ministry of Education selected integrated research on ultra-parallel optoelectronics as a core issue for one of its first Center of Excellence (COE) projects. Those achievements are highly regarded in both the scientific and academic communities. To date, Dr. Iga has published more than 420 papers, authored, co-authored, or edited over 15 books, and received about 30 patents.
