Bio
Keith L. Cartwright (Member, IEEE) received the bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Champaign, IL, USA, in 1991, and the master’s and Ph.D. degrees in physics from the University of California at Berkeley (UCB), Berkeley, CA, USA, in 1999.
He is currently a Research Physicist at the Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM, USA, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. He previously worked at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, and as a Professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology. During his career, he has developed bounded particle-in-cell, massively parallel, electromagnetic plasma simulations tools. This work focused on nonideal material effects such as neutral, ion, and electron production from surfaces in HPM tubes and cavities when exposed to high energy radiation. As well as air breakdown and dielectric breakdown due to microwaves and dc electric fields on surfaces and in volumes. These models can be applied to power flow modeling and theory for both small (HPM/SPHINX) and large (Z, Saturn, and HERMES) systems.
