Bio
Dr Katrina Roper (PhD, M.App.Epid.) is a Research Fellow at the Australian National University within the Masters of Philosophy (Applied Epidemiology) program.
Dr Roper has worked at the Australian Government Department of Health, initially as Assistant Director for Vaccine Preventable Diseases Surveillance and subsequently as Coordinator of OzFoodNet, a national collaborative network that undertakes surveillance and investigations of foodborne disease in Australia. Previously she worked at Food Standards Australia New Zealand within the Risk Assessment Microbiology team and at the George Institute where she evaluated the impact of road safety reforms in the Northern Territory.
More recently Dr Roper worked for the World Health Organization, three years as a consultant and three as a staff member. She worked on laboratory strengthening and capacity building, anti-microbial resistance and epidemic response including in-country work in Sierra Leone with the Ebola Response Team. These three areas remain her key research focus areas.
Dr Roper is currently partly supported by an NHMCR Centres for Research Excellence grant for Integrated Surveillance for Epidemic Response.
