Bio
I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the lab of Prof. Randall Platt at ETH Zurich's Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering, where I am applying genetic engineering approaches to great novel gut microbiota-based diagnostics and therapeutics.
I received my PhD in March 2022, which I conducted at APC Microbiome Ireland, University College Cork under the supervision of Dr. Olivia O'Leary and Prof. John Cryan. My research focused on understanding the relationships between the gut microbiota and the brain throughout the lifespan with an emphasis on neuroplasticity and cognitive behavior. Following my PhD, I was a Visiting Researcher in the lab of Laurie Cox at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where I supported research investigating the role of the gut microbiota in Alzheimer's Disease.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Hamilton College, along with a minor in Environmental Studies (completed 12/2017), and studied abroad at the University of Otago (Feb-June 2017). During my undergraduate training, I was fortunate to receive several grants that allowed me to conduct research in Madagascar (studying the gut microbiome of wild lemurs) and Taiwan (nanotechnology research on single cell protozoa), as well as my own independent research at Hamilton College.
