Bio
My research interests include public opinion, protests, and authoritarian politics. Drawing on evidence from Russia, I study how non-democratic incumbents use nonviolent repression and propaganda to lower the costs of staying in power. Other projects examine the origins of mass support for authoritarian leaders. I am the recipient of a three-year UKRI-ESRC New Investigator grant (2021-24) that studies strategies of nonviolent repression in electoral autocracies. My research has appeared in the American Political Science Review, World Politics, and the Journal of Politics, among others.
