Bio
Professor Kapil Sayal's research interests include developmental epidemiology, Health Services Research, child and adolescent mental health in schools and primary care, ADHD and self-harm. He carries out epidemiological research in ADHD including long-term follow-up studies. His programme of Health Services Research includes intervention research that aims to improve the identification of and outcomes for children and young people with mental health problems in school, primary care and specialist clinical settings.
Kapil led a DH-funded follow-up of an RCT investigating the impact of school-based interventions for attention and hyperactivity problems on children's outcomes and access to services. He was the Nottingham lead on an NIHR HTA-funded RCT (PROMISE) of a school-based CBT intervention to prevent depression in high-risk adolescents. He recently led the e-DASH study, investigating the feasibility of an RCT of remotely-delivered CBT for young people with depression who self-harm, in the NIHR CLAHRC East Midlands, and was a co-investigator on the 'Listen-Up' study' funded by the Department of Health (www.listen-up.ac.uk)
Currently, Kapil is leading the NIHR HTA-funded STADIA trial investigating the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of a standardised diagnostic assessment for children and young people with emotional difficulties who have been referred to CAMHS.
