Steven J Kamper BSc(Hons) BAppSc(Phty) PhD

Dr Kamper is a clinical researcher with a professional background in physiotherapy, his PhD was awarded by Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney in 2011. Dr Kamper is Professor of Allied Health in the School of Health Sciences, at the University of Sydney and Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District where he is responsible for facilitating and supporting research among clinicians in the district. His main research interest lies in investigating the interaction between musculoskeletal pain and broader health risk factors such as overweight, smoking, alcohol misuse and poor mental health. His experience includes in design, conduct and reporting of prognostic studies, RCTs, systematic reviews, clinimetric analyses and studies exploring the mechanisms of effect. Other research interests include patient expectations and placebo effects, musculoskeletal pain in adolescents, and research methods.
Dr Kamper has published more than 190 articles, including in top-ranking general medical (eg. BMJ, JAMA, PLOS Medicine) and specialist journals (eg. Pain, J Clinical Epidemiol), and presented his work more than 60 times in over 10 different countries. His work has been cited >9,000 times in peer-reviewed publications, his H-Index is 43 (google scholar). He has received >$5 million in competitive research funding from NHMRC, MRFF, NSW Health, Norwegian Research Foundation, Eastern Health in Canada and University of Sydney. He has developed productive collaborations with researchers in Australia, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the UK.
