Bio
Dr. Kalvir S. Dhuga received his Ph.D. from the University of Birmingham in 1980. After appointments as Research Associate at King's College of the University of London and the University of Pennsylvania and as Assistant Research Professor at New Mexico State University, he came to GW in 1987 as Assistant Professor (in the Physics Department) and became Associate Professor in 1993. He has published over 90 research papers, mostly from an extensive program of DOE-funded experimental work done at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, and Jefferson Lab, a high-energy electron beam facility at Newport News, Virginia. In recent years he has successfully led an effort in the Physics Department to create a new NASA-funded research program in astrophysics. The astrophysics program is now flourishing and Dr. Dhuga continues to be an active member of the astrophysics group and has formed productive collaborations with groups in Turkey (Sabanci and Adiyaman universities), and Egypt (universities of Cairo and Sohag). He is very much involved in the development and implementation of new and innovative teaching techniques and methodologies. A number of years ago, he led a University-Wide team in the creation of a brand new inter-school master's degree program in computational sciences. He served as the first Director of that program for three years. He also initiated the first multi-media-based, online course in Astronomy for non-science majors in the Physics Department.
