Research Interests
Our research activity involves understanding the physics of correlated electron systems with an emphasis on superconductivity, topological phases of matter, Kondo physics and semiconductor nano-structures. Electronic structure constitutes the microscopic origin of all material properties. A solid is a metal, semiconductor, insulator, superconductor or magnet is determined by the electronic interactions. Even the elastic and thermal properties depend on the electronic structure. To derive the electronic structure experimentally, we have built a state-of-the-art electron spectroscopy laboratory at TIFR, first of its kind in India, working at an energy resolution close to 2 meV, angle resolution of about 0.1o (R4000 and DA30L electron analyzer, Scienta) and spin resolution (mini Mott detector, Specs) – the spectrometers are designed and fabricated using facilities in India that helped to build/improve UHV capabilities in the country. We also do time-resolved angle-resolved (trARPES) spectroscopy in collaboration with the group of Prof. Dr. Giovanni de Ninno, University Nova Gorica.
