Bio
Kai Schleupen (Member, IEEE) received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany, in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering with a focus on active matrix displays with fully integrated drivers on glass from the Institute for Flat Panel Displays, University of Stuttgart, in 1996.
In 1995, he joined the Display Research Department, AT&T Bell Labs, Murray Hill, NJ, USA, and after the breakup of AT&T in 1996, he joined the Display Research Department, IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY, USA, as a Research Staff Member, with a focus on high-resolution active-matrix LCD technology, where he contributed to the development of IBM’s 9.2 Mpixel monitor that entered the market in 2001 as the world’s highest resolution AMLCD desktop monitor. After the divestiture of IBM’s display business unit, he led multiple research projects in the areas of reconfigurable systems, next-generation computing, and small form factor modular supercomputing. Currently, he is the Senior Manager of IBM Research overseeing departments in electronics chip packaging, next-generation computing electronic design, and customized supercomputing systems. He is the author or coauthor of 21 U.S. patents and more than 40 technical publications.
Dr. Schleupen has received two IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement awards.
