个人简介
Dr. Kathleen Lantz is the Division Chief for the NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory (GML), Global Radiation Aerosol, and Cloud Division (GRAD) . Dr. Lantz is the Solar Renewable Energy Lead and the Satellite Validation Product Lead. She received her Ph.D. at the University of Colorado, Boulder and continued with a NCAR ASP Postdoctoral Fellowship to study UV photolysis and air quality. Her research focuses on radiative transfer, aerosol properties, surface radiation budget, and factors affecting UV radiation.
Kathy's recent work emphasizes solar radiation observations for renewable energy, the role of the radiation budget in Numerical Weather Prediction for solar, cloud, and wind forecasts, and GOES-R satellite product validation. She has developed several mobile SURFRAD observation systems for studies on radiation, cloud, and aerosol optical properties in observational field campaigns. Her work has added instrumentation for measuring spectral surface albedo, NDVI, AOD, and the potential for future products on cloud and aerosol properties at the long-term SURFRAD sites. Her interests are in the role of these quantities in climate, weather, and renewable energy research. Current projects include the NOAA-DOE Solar Forecasting Improvement Project (SFIP) and Wind Forecasting Improvement Project (WFIP-2), and GOES-R Field Cal/Val Activities. She is the Chair of the Spectral Radiation Working Group of the Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN). She has served on the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) UV Radiation Instruments Group, the UV Group of the USGCRP, is a past contributor of the Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion, and the BAMs State of the Climate Report in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
