Bio
Kremena Makasheva is Director of Research at CNRS and leader of the team for RF plasma deposition of thin nanocomposite layers in the Science and Engineering of Reactive Plasmas and Arcs (ScIPRA) group at LAPLACE laboratory, Toulouse, France. She works on plasma deposition of nanostructured thin layers for biomedical, optical and electrical engineering applications. She obtained PhD degree in 2002 for her thesis on “Diffusion Regime of Electrical Gas Discharges in the Field of Propagating Surface Waves” at Sofia University, Sofia, Bulgaria. In January 2003 she joined the Groupe de physique des plasmas at Université de Montréal, for almost 4 years to work on surface wave discharges at atmospheric pressure, especially on contraction phenomenon. In 2007 she moved to Toulouse, France, LAPLACE laboratory, to work on modeling microdischarges and microwave plasmas sustained by dipolar sources at the electron cyclotron resonance (ECR). She obtained her Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) in May 2008 from the University Paul Sabatier, Toulouse. In 2009 she started working on plasma deposition of thin dielectric layers, their characterization and analysis in relation with dielectric charging phenomena. Her research activities in LAPLACE are now directed to the study of reactive plasmas and to the design, optical and structural characterization, and applications of plasma deposited nanocomposites materials. She gained a lot of experience in managing interdisciplinary projects through coordination, taken responsibilities and participation (CNRS-PEPS NanoAr&Bi, CNRS-MI DsRed, CNRS-MI Inter-Instituts, ANR BENDIS, ANR GROWNANO, ANR Int InTail, AO3 UPS BioNAg, IDEX ADAGIO, IDEX SEPHIR). She served as General Chair of the 11th IEEE Nanotechnology Materials and Devices Conference (IEEE NMDC, Oct. 9-12, 2016, Toulouse, France) and the 16th IEEE NMDC 2021 (Dec. 12-15, 2021, Vancouver, Canada) supported by the IEEE Nanotechnology Council. She was Vice President for Technical Activities (VP TA) of IEEE Nanotechnology Council (IEEE NTC) for the term 2020-2021 and is currently Vice President for Conferences of IEEE NTC (2023-2024).
