Bio
Dr. Sundar Rajan Krishnan earned his B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) in 1998 from Bharathidasan University and M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama in 2005. Following a three-year postdoctoral stint at Argonne National Laboratory he joined Mississippi State University (MSU) as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in August 2008. He was promoted to Associate Professor (with tenure) at MSU in 2014. He returned to the University of Alabama as Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2017 and was promoted to Full Professor in Fall 2021. His research is focused on experimental and computational investigations of advanced low temperature combustion concepts (e.g., dual fuel LTC) and alternative fuels (e.g., natural gas, propane, hydrogen, dimethyl ether, etc.) for improving fuel efficiencies and power densities of future IC engines, while simultaneously reducing pollutant emissions. He is also interested in thermodynamic combustion modeling (first and second law, and exergy analyses), CFD simulations of engine processes, emissions reduction strategies, and waste energy recovery. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and has advised or co-advised 21 M.S. and Ph.D. students.
