Bio
Kaisa Ivaska is a Senior Lecturer in Cell Biology and Metabolism (BSc and MD degree programs) and Adjunct Professor (docent) at University of Turku, Finland. She did her PhD in Cell Biology at University of Turku (2005) and continued for postdoctoral training first at Lund University, Sweden (Profs. Karl Obrant and Kristina Åkesson) and then at University of Turku (Prof. Kalervo Väänänen). Since 2012, she has been PI for Bone and Energy Metabolism group, Institute of Biomedicine.
Her research in focused on bone metabolism and bone metabolic markers and the crosstalk between bone and energy metabolism. Her current research interests include the role of bone-derived hormones, or osteokines, in local and whole body energy metabolism, and the interactions between bone cells and bone marrow adipocytes in bone microenvironment.
