Career Trajectory
Bio
Karla Hiller finished her diploma study of Electrotechnical Engineering at TU Dresden in 1988. After that, she started to work at TU Chemnitz in the field of micro system technology with the focus on wafer bonding technology and finished her PhD in 1994. Since then, she developed MEMS technologies for several MEMS applications, such as sensors for acceleration, vibration, angular rate, pressure, and optical filters and micromirrors. She was the leader of several large public funded projects (such as the EU-Project „SEMOFS“ (2005-2008) for the development of a polymer-based platform for point-of-care diagnostics), but also for GERMAN projects funded by the BMBF and the ministry of Saxony with more industry-relevant applications (such as the projects MIDAS, SIRKO, Nano3PT, MiniModul, POLAR, ESAIRQ, PHIPMEMS for the development of optical filters and components, and the projects EKOFEM, IMO-MOCAP, H4GIS, KoliBriS, Intense2020, diVIBES for the development of inertial sensors. She was an active investigator within the "Sonderforschungsbereich „Mikromechanische Sensor- und Aktorarrays“, the DFG research group 1713: “Sensor and actuator systems” and recently the joung researchers group E-PISA (Energy autark wireless Piezoelectrical MEMS for medical and industrial applications) at Chemnitz University.
In 2004, the got her Habilitation in the field of micro technology. Since 2008, she is deputy director of the Center for Microtechnologies and since 2011 she works as Professor at the TU Chemnitz.
