Dr Kathleen Finlayson is a Registered Nurse with a Masters in Primary Health Care and a PhD in the area of chronic wound management. She was awarded her PhD in 2010 by publication, received a University Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award, and a National Health and Medical Research Council Early Career Fellowship from 2013–2017. Prior to, and during higher degree studies, Dr Finlayson practised as a Registered Nurse and Midwife for over twenty years, primarily in the areas of rehabilitation, community, aged care, and women’s health; gaining advanced clinical skills and experience as a clinical manager and educator.
In 2018 Dr Finlayson was awarded a Fellow of Wounds Australia, in recognition of her extensive service and contribution to research and education in wound management; and is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Australian Wound and Tissue Repair Society, and the Australian College of Nursing. Her teaching experience encompasses multidisciplinary areas in the Faculty of Health, unit coordination in the undergraduate nursing degree, national rounds of training workshops for health professionals, and supervision of higher degree research students, coursework masters’ dissertations, vacation research experience students and research assistants. In her research career she has published over 80 refereed journal articles and four book chapters; and received over six million AUD in grants. Over the past 20 years Kathleen has worked on research projects relating to wound management and prevention, primary health care and service delivery, chronic disease management, evidence-based practice and implementation science.
