Bio
My academic and research interest is focused on understanding and managing the complex and long-term sustainability of coupled social-economic-environmental systems. A particular interest is how to use this understanding to design decision support tools in the form of models that help decision-makers to evaluate the impact of different scenarios or policies under an uncertain global future. To accomplish this, I use systems thinking tools and system dynamics modelling that involve the participation of diverse stakeholders to develop formal system-based models to achieve sustainability outcomes. I work primarily in the agricultural and water resource systems space, but the modelling tools I use may be applied in a wide range of natural resource contexts. My past and present research have addressed complex sustainability problems in areas, such as climate-water-food nexus, population dynamics, whole-farm analysis, the economics of agricultural production systems, and river basin management. I lived and worked in Africa, the UK and Australia, which allow me to develop collaborative working experience with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia, where his work focuses on trying to develop system based models and decision support systems to improve the productivity, efficiency and sustainability of cropping systems in Australia’s northern and Southern grain production region.
I am an Associate Fellow (AFHEA) of the UK Higher Education Academy, and an Associate Member of the Institute of Environmental Management Assessment (IEMA), UK.
