个人简介
Julie’s current research is in the field of Human Computer Interaction with a focus on health and wellness technologies for use by older adults and clinicians. This involves requirements gathering with end users and translating such requirements into the design of applications that are both intuitive to use and of benefit to older people. Her role also involves the deployment, field evaluation and analysis of such technologies in older peoples’ homes. Julie has published over 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals, books and conference proceedings and has presented her work at a number of international conferences and invited seminars. Julie chaired the 7th Annual Irish HCI conference, which was hosted by CASALA at Dundalk Institute of Technology. Most recently, Julie spoke at TEDx Fulbright Dublin. The title of her talk was Empowering Healthy Ageing with Good Design.
In her current position at CASALA, Julie leads HCI research that crosses the fields of ambient assisted living, falls prevention, emotional wellbeing and telehealth. Julie is the Principal Investigator on a falls prevention project that involves partners including the HSE (Health Service Executive), University College Dublin, Dublin City University and Fujitsu. Julie oversees all user-centred application design and development at CASALA. Her current research is examining (1) the effectiveness of various types of feedback to convey health and wellbeing information to older adults, (2) how to increase older adults' awareness of their own health and (3) ultimately support them in self-management of their health with the goal of enhancing quality of life.
Julie teaches a weekly iPad class to a number of older adults and coordinates a group of older research volunteers who visit the CASALA centre regularly to take part in focus groups, testing and piloting of questionnaires and technologies.
Julie is the Great Northern Haven project manager and coordinator of the SANDPiT project, an intergenerational design project involving students from local schools and older adults co-designing intergenerational applications together.
