Broadly speaking, my research explores interactions between self-regulation, emotion, and visual attention. I seek to understand a) how various kinds of prioritized goals guide visual attention, especially when they compete with conflicting motivations, emotional events, or people’s stereotypes; and b) what causes people to prioritize single goals over their other motivations and which role attentional and emotional processes play herein. My current research applies these questions to self-control conflicts, emotion regulation, intergroup conflict, and prosocial behaviour. After finishing my undergraduate studies in Psychology (major field: Social Cognition) at the University of Würzburg, Germany, I completed my PhD in Psychology at Ghent University, Belgium, in May 2010. After two years at the University of Chicago, I have started working as a lecturer (~ Assistant Professor) at the University of Reading, UK, in September 2013.
