Julia C. Kenyon

I'm a recently appointed Group Leader in the Division of Virology, Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge, and a College Associate Professor, at Homerton College, University of Cambridge. My research focus is on viral RNA structure. My interests have previously centred around HIV-1 packaging, looking at how the structure of the RNA genome mediates its recognition by the viral Gag protein, and how the RNA structure changes upon subsequent Gag interactions. This included small-molecule drug development against specific viral RNA structures. Within the Department of Pathology, I plan to widen my research focus to include Nanopore direct RNA sequencing, looking at the RNA structures of different spliced isoforms of HIV-1 RNA. I am also now working on flaviviral RNA-protein interactions.
