Chern received the B.S. degree in bioengineering from the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Columbia University, New York, NY, USA, and the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in molecular and cellular biology from the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, USA. He is a practicing pediatric neurosurgeon with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and a Clinical Associated Professor with Department of Neurosurgery, Emory University. His clinical research interests include endoscopic and epilepsy surgeries.
