Bio
Josep Mangues-Bafalluy is Senior Researcher and Head of the Communication Networks Division of the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC). Prior to that, he coordinated the activities of the IP Technologies Area of the CTTC since June 2003. Sample projects in which he has been involved: EU 5GPPP 5G-Crosshaul, EU 5GPPP Flex5Gware, BeFEMTO (ICT-FP7), SCALE (Industrial-Aviat Networks), DESSERT (Industrial-Cisco), EXTREME Testbed (CTTC-internal) and he led research projects 5GNORM, SYMBIOSIS, ARTICO, DISTORSION, or FREEDOM. He received the degree in Telecommunications Engineering in 1996 and the PhD degree in Telecommunications in 2003, both from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). In 1995, he obtained an Erasmus grant for the realization of his master thesis in the National Higher Education Engineering School of Electricity, Electronics, Computer Science and Hydraulics of Toulouse (ENSEEIHT) in France. From 1997 to May 2003 he worked as researcher in the Broadband Communications Research Group of the Department of Computer Architecture and the Advanced Broadband Communications Center (CCABA) of UPC. Since 1999 until May 2003, he has also been assistant professor at the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) of UPC where he taught topics related with computer networking and computer architecture basics. Other projects in which he was involved are: Regional (I2CAT), Spanish (SABA, SABA2, SAM, ARTICO, DISTORSION), EC funded (INFOWIN, LONG, WIP), Industrial (Freedom/Orange, Videobond/DITEC). Some of these projects were led by him. His research interest areas include software-defined networks (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) applied to mobile networks and autonomic/self-organized networks (mobile and transport network layers).
